Extension of the BCH decoding algorithm to decode binary cyclic codes up to their maximum error correction capacities

چکیده

Absrrucr -The BCH algorithm can be extended to correct more errors than indicated by the BCH bound. In the first step of the decoding procedure, we correct a number of errors, corresponding to a particular case of the Hartmann-Tzeng bound. In the second step we aim at full error correction. A measure for the worst-case number of field elements of an extension field GF(2") that must be tested for this purpose is given for binary cyclic linear unequal error protection codes as well as for conventional binary cyclic codes.

On Step-by-Step Complete Decoding Triple-Error-Correcting Binary BCH Codes

The decoding beyond the Bose-Chaudhuri-Hocquenghem (BCH) bound is always an interesting research topic in block error correction codes. However, searching a complete decoding algorithm is not easy since all the error patterns that belong to the coset leaders of the standard array need to be correctable [1]. Both the well-known standard algebraic method and the step-by-step method can be used to...

A new procedure for decoding cyclic and BCH codes up to actual minimum distance

In this paper, a new procedure for decoding cyclic and BCH codes up to their actual minimum distance is presented. Previous algebraic decoding procedures for cyclic and BCH codes such as the Peterson decoding procedure and our procedure using nonrecurrent syndrome dependence relations can be regarded as special cases of this new decoding procedure. With the aid of a computer prokram, it has bee...

List decoding of binary codes

We briefly survey some recent progress on list decoding algorithms for binary codes. The results discussed include: – Algorithms to list decode binary Reed-Muller codes of any order up to the minimum distance, generalizing the classical GoldreichLevin algorithm for RM codes of order 1 (Hadamard codes). These algorithms are “local” and run in time polynomial in the message length. – Construction...

New Two-Stage Automorphism Group Decoders for Cyclic Codes in the Erasure Channel

Recently, error correcting codes in the erasure channel have drawn great attention for various applications such as distributed storage systems and wireless sensor networks, but many of their decoding algorithms are not practical because they have higher decoding complexity and longer delay. Thus, the automorphism group decoder (AGD) for cyclic codes in the erasure channel was introduced, which...

Decoding of the Five-Error-Correcting Binary Quadratic Residue Codes

In this paper, a new efficient syndrome-weight decoding algorithm (NESWDA) is presented to decode up to five possible errors in a binary systematic (47, 24, 11) quadratic residue (QR) code. The main idea of NESWDA is based on the property cyclic codes together with the weight of syndrome difference. The advantage of the NESWDA decoding algorithm over the previous table look-up methods is that i...
